Street language is something we are used to in the city of Amsterdam. It’s part of our culture and still changes everyday. With music, spoken word, stories and poems the Tropenmuseum celebrates the innovation of the Dutch language. During the Algemeen Cool Nederlands (the Dutch saying for Oxford English) Event rebels, innovators and real language lovers are coming together on stage. A cool collaboration from The Achievers Night and SPOKEN, two concepts which strive to connect hip hop, music and literature.
The night kicks off with Achievers Night, an initiative from record label Top Notch and Publisher Lebowski. Writers and musicians will perform on stage, including f.e. Akwasi (we wrote about him
earlier). The second part of the event will be related to SPOKEN – an initiative from rappers Blaxtar and Manu. During 15 minutes rappers will try to entertain the audience. Without lights, music or help from a DJ, just with words.
This event is founded by the exposition Zwart & Wit. (Black & White). Personal stories, photos, movies and an art show how ‘black and white’ used to live together since 1863 in Holland. This exposition will be held until July 1st at the Tropenmuseum.
Algemeen Cool Nederlands | Saturday, April 19th | 19.00 – 22.30 | Grote Zaal KIT, (Mauritskade 63) | €9,-.

I got to learn about KISS AND TELL after I bought a nice new shirt which appeared to be from this brand. I noticed that there was a label in the shirt telling me who made it (Mohammed from North-Indea, on the pic above) and how long it took him to finish (2 days). I did know the shirt was made from handwoven silk, but I didn’t know this brand had a really cool story and way of working. KISS AND TELL takes care of the people it works with, and the planet. All the clothes are made from a natural wild silk and together with local NGOs they keep traditional silk farming alive and create fair jobs for local weavers in North-East India.
I love it when brands succeed in creating fairtrade products that look good as well. I must say that I never really search for fair fashion, but it does add so much value to your item when it has such a good story and background. A brand to keep an eye on. And to make it even better: you can meet your weaver on the website of the brand and send him a thank you note – so nice!

Dance Dance Dance. One of our passions. My biggest passion. This is a must see short movie which shows all the awesome moves. From A – Z! For this special i-D / Diesel collaboration the best dancers in the world are shot by Jacob Sutton. The film, shot in Los Angeles, stars some dancers you might recognise including the pole dancer – Nicole the Pole - from Rihanna’s ‘Pour It Up’ video and the Soul Step team fresh from the Rick Owens FW14 catwalk show. They all dance in the new Jogg Jeans by Diesel denim, with a 360 degree stretch. NJOY!
